4H Lazybones, onyx black glaze; DDS7/P7, Ada clay. Frankoma introduced this pattern in 1953 so only one year is available on Ada clay. This example is actually on a dingy colored Ada clay that I believe immediately preceded the introduction of Sapulpa clay in 1954. This photo shows the clay type clearly. Collectors can commonly find shakers from the early 1950's with this grainy tan clay. John Frank used the double diamond "S" on all of the Lazybones shakers, a fact that helps to date that pour hole pattern to late 1952 or early 1953. The plugs are not original.
