49H Oil Derricks, turquoise glaze. Both of these pairs could be confused as being Type 1 or Type 2. The glaze is nearly the same (the left glaze is more opaque) although some reference sources say the 1942 turquoise is different from the 1951 turquoise. The key is in the plug depressions. Despite being on a red Ada clay the pair on the left is the older Type 1 from the early post-fire era. The plug depression is shallow and rounded. The pair on the right is the Type 2 from about 1951. The plug depression is deeper and has sharp edges. This very light Ada clay appears in non-dinnerware shakers from about 1948-1952. Sometime in the early post-fire era of 1940-1943 Frankoma made several shapes of shakers glazed turquoise and fired on this red Ada clay.
